The inspiring journey of a fully reformed and well-deserving achiever in global health and sustainable development began at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

Isola Abeeb Akinwumi, a First-Class graduate from the Department of Industrial Chemistry, embarked on a remarkable path in computational drug discovery, redefining what it means to pursue excellence.

As an undergraduate, he was widely known for his academic brilliance and global mindset. His consistency, hard work, and vision carved out a place for him in the global scientific community.

In his postgraduate pursuit, Ishola ventured into the innovative field of chemoinformatics. He completed the first year of his Master’s degree at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia and concluded it at the University of Strasbourg in France.

In 2024, he joined the Computational Algorithms for Protein Structures and Interactions (CAPSID) team at Inria, CNRS, and the University of Lorraine. His research focused on the conformational dynamics of the spike trimer—a crucial topic in modern virology and vaccine development. “That experience opened my eyes to the power of computational tools,” he says. “We can now simulate processes that were once invisible, offering insights that directly impact drug development.”

Driven by a passion to share knowledge, Ishola founded The Insilico Lab—a learning platform built to help others understand the drug discovery process from the ground up.

The Insilico Lab offers step-by-step tutorials, starting from the basics of computer-aided drug design to advanced techniques such as molecular docking, ADMET prediction, and molecular dynamics simulations. It also explores emerging fields like QSAR (Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationships) and the use of artificial intelligence in medicine. The platform is further enriched with blog posts, regular updates, and a collaborative community that connects learners and researchers globally.

The achievements of Mr. Isola Abeeb Akinwumi are a true reflection of resilience, innovation, and purpose—showing how one person’s dedication can influence global health advancement and inspire the next generation of scientists and scholars.
